How Do We Train Dogs?

Our training methods are based on "Positive Reinforcement" (i.e. training with treats/toys).  The rationale behind our method of training is that it is unfair to correct a dog when he does not know what he is supposed to do.  We teach you how to work with your dog's inherent "drives" (i.e. food, play, prey), and use them for obedience, rather than struggling against and trying to modify "who" your dogs is instinctively.  This type of approach has produced extraordinary success in achieving greater reliability and enthusiasm for the work!

Cool K9's Obedience Training Classes:

Puppy Kindergarten

Get started on the right foot!  Imprinting obedience on your new family addition will make proofing (perfecting) obedience on your all-too-soon adult dog so much easier!  This course covers basic obedience commands, behavioral problems, communication, canine psychology, and bonding.  Particular emphasis is placed on attention and the recall (lifesaver!).  Every class also includes important socialization time for your puppy (and his owners)!  Puppies ranging from the ages of 9 weeks to 6 months are welcome for this course.

Basic Obedience

Whether or not you've been through another class, it's never too late to start training properly!  This course covers everything the Puppy class does, with more emphasis on precision, working through distractions, reading your dog, pack dynamics, and other behavioral issues.  This course is designed for dogs over the age of 6 months.

Novice - Intermediate

This course will build upon the obedience commands, which were learned in the Basic Classes.  This course will introduce off leash work and demand more precision and speed from the handler and dog.  This course will still be based on motivational training.

Intermediate - Advanced Obedience

For those who wish to "step it up a notch"!  This course will introduce more distractions, more precision, and more off-leash control.  Recommended for anyone who works their  dog in off-leash situations (competition, hiking, hunting, etc.).

In-Home Training

Is your schedule so hectic that you don't have time to attend a group class?  No problem!  We'll come to you!  Private sessions will be tailored to your specific needs, whether it's basic obedience, problem solving, behavior modification, or all of the above.
